PayU, a fast-growing online payment solution based in India, has recently partnered with WhatsApp to offer additional features and options to customers.
The move will ensure users are able to make payments directly on the messaging platforms with no need for redirections to third-party gateways. The update promises to make the process of paying online via WhatsApp smoother than ever.
The collaboration will enable the messaging platform owned by Meta to offer in-chat payments in India, where its largest client base is located.
Any merchant with enabled PayU payments will be granted access to the integrated PayU Checkout platform. In short, payments to such merchants can be completed in seconds without ever leaving the WhatsApp app.
The PayU Checkout system itself comes equipped with more than 150 payment options. The full list of available options includes cards, a Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and net banking options.
All of this, and more, will now be available to Indian users directly on the WhatsApp platform. As mentioned above, no redirections to internet browsers or third-party apps are necessary.
PayU India Chief Business Officer Sudhir Sehgal said:
“We are thrilled to introduce that PayU will power payments within the WhatsApp app, which is a significant leap in enhancing the shopping experience for both businesses and customers.
“This will empower businesses to provide a wide range of payment options directly within the WhatsApp platform.”
This is not the first time we’ve seen Meta offer such options via WhatsApp. Previous deals with FinTech services have already brought similar features and functionality to users in Brazil, Singapore, and other countries. This move in India, however, promises to be the biggest one by far. More than half of India’s billion+ population is reportedly on WhatsApp, which is a massive new customer base by any measure.
